Mon may 4 what I’ve learned

The school year is almost over And we have about 2 weeks of school left until the school year is over.  We have learned a lot about film making in this school year. At the beginning of the school year, we were learning about all of the different aspects of the DSLR cameras which we would be using throughout the school year. I remember when we watched videos that explained things like how the speed of the camera shutters effect the outcome of the video footage. I also remember that when we were talking about film we learned that a shutter has the  three protrusion that are evenly spread out on the shutter. The shutter will spin and pass over the light right when the slide is changing. This causes the smooth transitions when the film is being feed through the projector by a wheel that will past the light. After we had learned about and talked about all of the ways to have scene in a movie jump to the next  scene in that movie. I remember a lot of the cut scene names. Some of the names are, wipe, cut, iris, fade in, fade out, different types of dissolving, jump cut, invisible cut, and also some sounds can create a transition which will go very smoothly in your mind. When we were learning about the DSLR cameras, I remember about all of the different settings that you can change to make the camera work a lot better than it was or just to suite your fancy. Now that we are in quarantine, we are working on editing video clips together on the software, adobe premiere rush,so we follow a script. It is not the easiest to do when we are at home and not able to ask questions as easily than if we were in school.

Article review for wed Apr 8

When I was on the website, no film school, I was looking for something that would interest me. The. Something caught my eye. An art tickle that was titled Breaking Down the Philosophy of ‘Watchmen’. I clicked on the link and read about it. The tv show watch men was very in depth. One of the important and deep themes is time and how you relate to it. A common question that is asked by the viewers of this show is how are the characters in the show dealing with the modern world while also reflecting on the past? One of the main characters in the show is named Angela, she is a super hero working in a police state. She has a struggle because she is an African American.  So she has to deal with a society mad at her for receiving reparations which is a payment that she deserves from past traumas. The people she has come to rely on are not as trustworthy as she thought, Her captain hides his KKK affiliation in a secret room. In the show, the characters have to find a way to use violence for good. There is another main theme in this show, ruling and judging like God. Angela has to judge the clues as they are coming to her. A new character named Vedit is creating life on Europa and then making the life meaning less so he can send a message to earth through his mass killings. Senator Keene is working secretly for the Seventh Kavalry, which is a white supremacy group. He is judging black America. He wants to regulate them back to the background, the worst part about this is that he knows the only possible way to do this is to eliminate God and change history.

March 27 learning review

With the corona virus pandemic, I was thinking back to all of the previous days that we were in school this current year. I can remember the beginning of the school year and how I was excited to learn a lot more than I had already knew about the study of film making. At the beginning of the year, we had learned and talked about all of the ways to have scene in a movie jump to the next scene in that movie. I still remember a lot of the cut scenes. Some of them are wipe, cut, iris, fade in, fade out, different types of dissolving, jump cut, invisible cut, and also some sounds can create a transition. When we were well versed on all of the types of transitions in film, we then started to learn about cameras and some of the different types of the angle that are pretty popular. We were watching videos of the different types so that we wouldn’t forget them easily, we were all so taught about how you can change the resolution on the DSLR cameras. After we were taught about the cameras, we could then start to use them by practicing the different angles, I thought that the most important rule of the camera angels was lead room or nose room. This was what had the subject or person on the far left side of the frame and as they walked to the right, the camera would move with them giving them the proper lead room that was necessary. Once we had learned how to do it on the cameras, we then shot our six word stories. These were stories that were told in six words, or in our case six shots. Once we had shot those, we went to computers and downloaded the footage.

Article review Monday 9

I was scrolling through the website, no film school and I found a article that was titled, “Corona virus Declared Pandemic”Larger Impact on Filmmakers and Industry is Coming”. I thought to myself, that seems really relevant especially because of the fact that the virus called corona virus has just, in my option, made the biggest jump in the history of its existence. The week that this article was published, they were discussing the cancellation of SXSW and how it will impact the workflows of different people. It might also effect film makers because they will have to work from home and they wont have the same equipment. With all that there is more, The World Health Organization has declared the Corona virus a pandemic which means that its is , according to the Washington Post. What comes next for our industry could possibly destroy the movie making industry for a decent amount of time. People that are in the film making business are being asked by their peers and bosses to work from home which will be a incredible struggle for them. Workers that are high up in the film making business are being to start canceling meetings or gatherings with their co workers so that they might be safe from the corona virus but i think by now they might have already gotten it. I think that the worst part of this is that they will slow down the production of productions. With the halt of productions movies might not come out at all so we might have to get used to watching the same movie over and over. I think that this whole thing is way overblown but since it is still very new every one is a lot more scared over it. I think that it will all be ok.

Blog post for Monday mar. 2

Within the past weeks, i have been introduce to a whole new world. I have learned a whole lot about the filmmaking industry, a lot more in to depth than I ever thought filmmaking could go. We have downloaded adobe premiere on computers. While the above premiere was downloading on the computers, we watched videos in class about how to use the new software. Also while we were waiting for it to download we recorded six word stories. These six word stories are six shots or clips that can tell a full story. When shot one that we found on the internet and that one was about a kid who couldn’t read then a friend came and helped him read, then he went to a teacher and took a test. When he got the test back, he had gotten an A plus. After we shot that six word story we were required to think of our own six word story when we were done thinking of ideas, we decided to do it on a kid who has trained and worked very Hard then beats his opponents in a race. After we had both of our six word stories. We could then download them on to a computer and start editing using premiere CS5 (the software we downloaded). We could change the transitions and cut the length of the films and add music or a voice over. I went in and renamed all of video clips based on what was in the clip that we shot. When I was done with that I dragged and dropped the clips to the editing bar. From there I added transitions to the clips. I found a good song with no words that was kind of a cheery song and added it over the audio because the audio had a lot of background noise in it.

Article review for Feb 22

When I was looking through the links for the article review, I saw the nofilmschool.com. When I entered into the the website I found myself scrolling down a lot. Then, I saw the title, “what does a development executive do”. I was curious so I clicked the picture and found out some new interesting things. It is a high-level position generally above a creative executive within a studio or production company. They read scripts, take meetings, give notes and work on finding the intellectual property or source material that can be turned into film or television.

The executive developer decides, with a lot of other executive developers, if a show and or. Movie should be on air. When you are in a meeting with a person who wants to put their show or movie on the air, you will sit down across a table from them and listen as they tell you all the stuff that they need to and more. Hopefully they tell you what you wanna hear so that you can put their show on the air. An executive developer should as well read books and article so that they can try to help spark ideas in the directors heads. If they are reading books and articles they can also have an impact on them self’s by getting them ready to work or interview a old or new director and having multiple articles going at one time. I think that this job would be very interesting.  I think this because you get to decide what people would be able to see on television that day and night. At the same time that i think that it would be fun, i also think there would be a lot of hardships. If you declined a show that people want to see, then everyone will be upset with you.

Super bowl commercials sun feb 9

With super bowl twenty twenty over, there were a lot of new commercials that we’re made just the Super Bowl. I have watched most of the commercials more than once, and have made a decision on which one were good in my head and which one were not as appealing to me when I watched them. The one commercial that I thought was the best was the planters peanut commercial. The commercial started out with a scene of a funeral that was for the planters peanut man, it showed coolaid man and mr. Clean crying over the peanuts death. Then one of the tears got on the mound of dirt that was shaped like a peanut. A sprout came out of the ground and then a baby peanut that looked like the original peanut man said, “I’m alright.” The super bowl commercial that I like the most after that one was the groundhogs day Jeep commercial. I liked this one because it tied in an older movie into a new product, the jeep gladiator. My next favorite commercial is the Porsche car commercial. I think that I like this one because it includes all the old Porsche car even a tractor, then they do a chase throughout the town because someone stole the new electric Porsche.  They catch up to him and realize that it was just an employee. After that commercial, I liked the Mountain Dew commercial that was a playoff of the movie, the shinning. It has the part where he breaks the door open with the axe. It even includes the bloody elevator scene, except it is Mountain Dew coming out of the elevator instead of blood. Lastly I liked the commercial where post Malone was at a gas station and wanted bud light but then he saw a bud light seltzer. It showed little people in side of his head making the choses for him and he ended getting both he seltzer and the regular bud light. When I was watching the super bowl commercials, there were some commercials that i didn’t enjoy as much as the other commercials. There was one commercial that i just couldn’t watch more than once. That commercial was the Walmart commercial, i thought it was kind of cheesy with the whole thing about the instant pickup sounded really stupid. They had a space ship come through and pick up grocery. They had r2d2 come up and order a rumba electronic vacuum cleaner which was kind of funny and he also order a case of wd-40. I think that people are getting to lazy with them self’s to even enjoy life anymore. The commercial that was a little bit better than that one was the commercial that had ellen in it and she asked the question, “what do you think that life was like before Alexa. It showed a preferable a differ age asking people that’s names were close enough to “Alexa”.

Article review for the 23

For my article review i chose the link, no film school. When i got to that site, no film school, one of the online articles that appeal to me greatly was one with the title, Roger Deakins Breaking Down His Best Films is a Masterclass in Cinematography. I think that this also appealed to me because the picture above the heading was one with a World War One or world war two solider walking across a battle field  i then found out that the movie with the picture in it was called, 1917. The author state, “Cinematography is more than just pointing your camera at something cool and hitting record. It’s visual storytelling that incorporates certain aesthetic elements of light, shape, size, color, movement, and so much more”. I, along with her believe that that is a very truthful statement that some people just don’t understand. The author explains that it can be difficult to analyze filmography of a man that is like Roger Deakins because we always tell ourself that we know what is going on in a movie. At the same time, the director and has a totally different plan about what the movie should be about. If we want to understand how to avoid thinking the wrong thing about a movie, we need to ask ourselves how a master cinematographer like Roger Deakins takes his ideas and synthesize them into something beautiful and moving on-screen. The author explains that you don’t want to have reality always be like how reality is, in other words you want to create a whole new, different world for your movie setting and your movie setting only. Aptly, the author makes a solid point to tell us readers that you can always try out new technologies even if yo Udo not think you will like them

Journal entry Jan 28

We have been in the film making class for about three weeks coming on four weeks. We’ve talked about a decent amount of thing ranging from how film is made to how to do certain cuts. At the beginning of the year, we were talking about certain film sizes like thirty five mm, sixteen mm, and eight mm film. We learned about how certain Film lengths were being feed through a projector. Along with that, we learned that a shutter has three protrusion that are evenly spread about the shutter. The shutter spins and passes over the light right when the slide is changing, causing the smooth transitions when the film is feed through by a wheel past the light. After we learned about the early day projectors, we started taking about why and how cut scenes are important. We talked about how cut scene can be messed up pretty badly. What makes a cut scene good and how to avoid some common mistakes. We talk about a lot of different types of cut scenes. We talked about the jump cut, that’s when the focus object jumps and before they land the scene changes to a different perspective or a whole different scene all together. A fade – in or fade – out just has the scene cut with a fade effect coming in or out of a frame. A direct cut is a a straight cut to the next scene, no effect. An iris wipe is when the screen turns black except for a smaller circle that, usually follows the main character. A ripple dissolve is a cut scene that an effect like water rippling away when you throw a stone in water. The most recent thing that we have been doing was downloading the above creative cloud, when done, we will be able to edit our clips.

Introdution blog

I don’t have much experience in filmmaking except for my brother and I would occasionally make stop motion film with stop motion apps. I don’t have any equipment for filming. I do find filming to be interesting enough on an iPhone and that encouraged me to join this class even though I do not know much about film making or the equipment used for it.
